MSI R9 280x not displaying on monitor

So I have two monitors, both have vga and dvi. One monitor is connected to the 280x via dvi and the other has a vga-hdmi adapter that plugs into the 280x's hdmi port. This monitor with the vga-hdmi adapter doesn't display for some reason; This adapter had worked just a few hours ago on another computer that connected to a TV and I know that this vga port works because It was working fine with a different graphics card.

Your problem is the VGA-HDMI adapter, get a DVI cable for the monitor that doesn't have one and hook it up via that. I can almost guarantee that will fix the issue.

VGA-HDMI adapters can be sort of "iffy" it's because they use different types of signals.

Thanks, I found out that the adapter I was using is actually for when the pc has vga and the TV has hdmi. So would it also work if it was a cable that had hdmi on one end and dvi on the other?
