MSI R9 290x vs GTX 780 ti

i am buying a new video card and trying to decide between MSI R9 290x and the MSI GTX 780 ti. i game on 1440p monitor.

Depends on the price. If the gtx 780ti is only a little more $ over the r9 290x, get the gtx 780ti. AMD cards now are overpriced because of the cryptorcurrency craze.

it looks like the GTX is $10 more on newegg. i was leaning torward the GTX but wasn't sure if the possibilities of mantle and 512 bit bandwidth makes the 290x a better choice.

All the 512 bit bandwidth does on the 290x is allow the speed of the memory to run lower, thus allowing the same effective speed. The 290x runs at a 5Ghz effective speed, whereas the 780Ti runs at a 7Ghz effective speed. There is almost no scenario (besides cryptocurrency mining) that the 290x will beat a 780Ti, so it is WELL worth the extra $10. Mantle supposedly offers significantly increased performance, but that will only work on games that support mantle, and we have no realistic numbers on that whatsoever, therefore I cannot offer any advice which includes mantle as a factor.

thanks for the info. i have never had a MSI product, do they make good video cards? the reviews i have read seem pretty good.

I haven't had one either, but I don't have anything bad to say about them. For Nvidia I would personally go EVGA but that's just me.
