MSI R9 380 4GB running worse than old EVGA 660ti?

I recently upgraded my EVGA GTX 660 Ti 2GB to a MSI R9 380 4G (4GB). In some cases, the R9 380 4G runs better than the 660 Ti, but more often than not, the 660 Ti will outperform it. For example, the R9 380 4G can run DOOM on ultra settings 1080p well, but my old 660 Ti could run Minecraft with shaders at 60+ FPS, whereas the same setting but on the R9 380 4G struggles to run Minecraft without shaders on, let alone with shaders!?! Any help here would be appreciated.

Solution
Looks like you can do it with MSI Afterburner (works for any GPU regardless of brand). Or there is a program called Radeon Pro.

Afterburner:

Radeon Pro:

Apparently using Vsync and Triple Buffering can solve tearing issues and possibly increase performance, or cause FPS drops. Seems to be 50/50 on which it will do.

that doesnt surprise me too much because the r9 380 isnt a huge upgrade from the 660ti. the r9 380 is very similar to the r9 280 which was just a overclocked hd 7950. the 7950 and the 660ti were both very comparable a few years ago....

Thanks for the fast response! So should I just reinstall my old 2GB EVGA 660 Ti? AMD does seem to have a lot of issues in games with me. I thought this card was a big upgrade over my 660 Ti, because I got it for DOOM, and even though for some reason I can't use VSYNC on this card but could on the 660Ti, it runs the game a lot faster.

You could be having driver conflicts. Did you run a driver remover like DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to remove the nVidia drivers completely, before installing the AMD drivers?

The R9 380 is a slightly overclocked R9 285, which was a refined version of the 280, which was an overclocked 7950. While still more powerful than the 660ti, it was mostly a lateral move you did.

No I didn't. So do you reckon that could be why its running games like Minecraft worse and not letting me use VSYNC in DOOM? So the card isn't that much more powerful then. Do you have a kind of percentage of how much better it is? Thanks :)

oh this is also a good point. try the driver thing first.

no idea how much more powerful it really is but i'd probably wager like 10% at the very most.

Will do. I'll let you know what happens.

This gives you a rough idea of where they stand:
http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-960-vs-GeForce-GTX-660-Ti
The 380 is the fastest of the 3 cards shown.

It's very possible that leftover pieces of the nVidia driver is causing issues, I recommend using DDU to remove the nVidia driver and AMD driver, then reinstall the latest AMD driver.

Well, it does seemed to have helped a bit, however DOOM still won't let me use VSYNC. I know this wasn't the original question, but is that due to me using AMD? Nvidia cards work fine. I've only just rcently gone to AMD so I'm quite new.

Well, doing a Bing search shows me that there are issues using vsync with nVidia and AMD cards, but it's worse for AMD. Apparently it is not recommended to use vsync with Doom as it can cause mouse lag and FPS loss. On nVidia cards, it's said that it will show vsync is on but there is no actual effect, but can cause FPS drops.

Are you getting screen tearing or something? Some people were able to force vsync, but most had bad results.

Oh okay, I was wondering if AMD was worse off. Yeah, I'm getting some pretty awful screen tearing actually :/ Using Radeon Settings did nothing to help, how do you force V-Sync on DOOM? Thanks a bunch everybody for all the help :)

Thanks man, I've tried RadeonPro and it never worked. I'll try MSI Afterburner now. :)
