i bought a msi r9 390 and i have it about 2 week it was working fine
and today it started coilwhining i can hear it but it's not that loud and can hear it on the headphones too sometimes it sounds like a 50cc bike lol, on iddle it's quiet doesn't have coilwhine and now that i noticed that i had some stuttering on the benchmarks that i noticed and some games i checked the graph and it goes up and down on iddle like from 0 to 78 then down and makes spikes and goes like 0/ 5/ 0/ 6/ 0/ 37/ 0/ 3/ 9/ %% usage random..
so i searched and someone said that it could be from the psu cause r9 390 is power hungry but it was working fine for almost for 2 weeks. so could it be the psu that makes the gpu to coilwhine or is the gpu not good from what i remember on iddle and on the games it was working fine and the usage on gpu didn't hadn't spikes on iddle like it has now and on games .
hope i can get some anwers from you guys Thanks.

Coil wine is something that many new or even older components have sometimes. Your saying the coil whine happens while gaming? Is it only while on the menus/loading screens? Usually the menus/loading screens get thousands of FPS and then that's only when I hear coil whine

For the 390 having spikes in usage, I would have to blame that on drivers. There seems to be something odd going on with the 15.8drivers unless you completely remove the previous drivers. Try using windows control panel and uninstalling AMD catalyst. When AMD asks you what to uninstall, tell it EVERYTHING. Then reboot and reinstall the 15.8 drivers again.

On the games it's while playing and on the menu too checked... about the stutterings on iddle the graph is not normal and it's not how it use to be before it was stable but right now ...
well am gonna try what you told me to thanks let's see

Montior your FPS with MSI afterburner's OSD. That is very helpful in determining FPS while gaming. I myself see my coil whine only happening when I have a ton of FPS. Your PSU could have coil whine under full load too. When you get the chance, try and listen to your parts and find which one is producing the whine.

ye i did that before to check my fps, i uninstalled the drivers and instal them again and i got some drop on performance like on unigine heaven benchmark got 40 fps drop and some other bencmarks and game too 20 fps or more or less wtf from what i see and same thing stuttering happens for some time i couldn't hear the coil whine on my headphones but now i can hear it .. and on iddle the coilwhine....and its a abit louder then before i think gonna instal the old drivers not the beta that there is now and some other things to get my performance back and some searching to fix the stutterings ... Thanks for the help

By this time, I'd RMA the card.

and something else it's weird now it's downclocked to 520mhz core clock and 750 mhz memory noticed on Msi afterburner and tried some benchmarking when it was like this it didn't had coilwhine at first while i tried some benchmark then i reseted the clock and memory at how it was and tried benchmarking coil whine came back after that i decreased the core clock and memory again on 520mhz and 750mhz coilwhine still was there

You should not have to run your card that low to get it to stop whining. You sure it isn't the sound of the fans? Try forcing the fans to run at %50.

Solution

no it's not the fans . well it downclocked by itself at first

I hope you get a new card :/
I love AMD's GFX cards, but now they have been slipping ever since the R9 series. I will get a NV card here soon to see how they are doing I guess.

Thanks i hope so, they did good on refreshing the gpu's but they have some problems too it's par with 970 about same price and better on some games and higher resolution well it has 8 gb too vs 3.5 gb but it would't be able to use them that well highter then 4.5 i maxed out the settings had about 4.1gb ram used before on gta it had still great performance on gta benchmark it got on some scenes 20 fps cause i had everything on maxed.. but on r9 390 crossfire vs sli 970 it's more futureproof 3.5 gb vs 8gb

I have tons of respect for AMD and their 7970/280X Tahiti based cards, I own two 280x cards and they are beasts even when ran in single at 1440P. Overclocking headroom for one is just insane.

btw, the gta v shot had mods and was ran at 1440p, rest at 1080 I think

well i get great perfomance as before on games and benchmarks but i got the stutterings that got some delay and micro stutterings ...

on gta i got about 4300 mb vram used on some scenes got scene 1 28 fps lowest higher 40 -45 fpsi think 35 fps st on/ scene 2 20fps lowest and higher about 38 and was about 30 stable scene 3 got higher fps and scene after scene it got increased the fps 45-60 cause it started using lower vram and am bored to download a program to make a video ... so it's not 100% accurate the fps i say but there somewhere there with those settings and when you try to prscr it get black screen on pic so you need to have it on windowed
