MSI UEFI preventing restart?

hi guys,

So recently I decided to re-install win8 in uefi mode. All went well and fine except for one thing...

If either I or win8 want to do a soft restart, the pc hangs just before where the POST would start and just sits there indefinitely from what I can tell.

If however I do a soft or hard shutdown, everything goes fine ok without a hitch.

My question is this... What is going on? And how can I fix it as I've just tried updating win8 to win8.1 and it's now going in a constant update loop (because I've tried hard restarting it).

Do I have to disable the BIOS or something?

My rig info:

Mobo: MSI 990XA-GD55
BIOS Version: E7640AMS V22.5
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 B60
HDD: WD Caviar 120gb

Well, I just did some research for MSI UEFI compatible MB's, and it seems like most of the 'compatible' ones are the gaming series. http://www.msi.com/html/popup/MB/uefi/applied_model.html
With that said... It looks like you also would have needed to install it 'properly' - and to a degree it looks like you may have.... I have a feeling that your system is looking for the UEFI 'drive'. The entire process seems - at first look - a bit complicated since many components should be UEFI compatible. But thinking it over again I'm not sure since I've only looked at this and mostly at the ASUS video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amwujljr7pY
Looks like there's some problems with booting - some help here:

Hope that helps.

After more digging, (and installing Ubuntu 15.04 in EFI) I've found that it HAS in fact installed perfectly... So much so, I'm actually writing this answer from Ubuntu.

That being said, I've come into a slightly new problem,

If I go into the BIOS itself and select Ubuntu, it'll boot in "Unsecure Mode" or "Insecure Mode".

If however, I let it boot automatically, UEFI cannot find anything and gives me the "Repair PC" screen (which, by the way, does nothing).

So I guess my newer question now is...

How to I configure UEFI to boot Ubuntu WITHOUT having to go into the BIOS each and every time?
