MSI Z170A Gaming M7 and Intel i5 8600k - compatible?

I have recently upgraded my pc w/ this combo and although everything is installed correctly, it cuts out after two seconds. Is this combo the issue and should I replace the motherboard or cuold there be something else? I've seen mixed reviews saying that they are or aren't compatible and am at a complete loss

You need a Z370 chipset to run an 8th generation processor.

If you are stuck with the Z170, you need an i5-6600k or i5-7600k, or for similar performance to the i5-8600k, an i7-6700k or i7-7700k.
