I recently bought a kabylake i7 7700k and tried and to install it in my motherboard and it obviously didn't work since my bios was not updated to support the next generation processors.

After researching the Internet I learnt that the bios can be flashed using the flashback technology available in the motherboard.

I downloaded both 1.H and 1.G versions of bios updates and tried to flash it but with no success, since I followed all the instructions in the internet.

I formatted the 16GB flash memory with FAT32 and renamed the update file to MSI.ROM as instructed and plugged the flash memory to the designated USB port. When I press the flashback button in the motherboard a steady red light appears and then nothing seems to happen.

I cannot get my hands on the 6th Gen processor since I sold it. Any help at this point will be amazing

my specs:
MSI z170a Gaming M7
i7 7700k Kabylake
MSI GTX 1060
8GB Corsair vengeance DDR4
Thermaltake AIO Water 3.0 CPU cooler
180GB intell SSD
5x 1TB sea gate SATA drives
750w Thermaltake PSU

Solution
Try different USB drive (try borrowing one). Don't start the board. Just make sure that the power supply is connected and on.

I could try a different flash memory, but what's the correct naming format for the downloaded file as some websites specify to rename it to MSI.ROM

You didnt put the update in a folder did you . I think it should be in the root of the flash drive, not in a folder

Read the manual not other websites on what to do

Only the FAT32 format USB flash drive supports updating BIOS by BIOS FLASHBACK+.

● By BIOS FLASHBACK+ button

1. Connect power supply to JPWR1 and JPWR2. (No other components are necessary but power supply.)

2. Plug the USB flash drive that contains the MSI.ROM file into the BIOS FLASHBACK+ port on rear I/O panel.

3. Press the BIOS FLASHBACK+ button to flash BIOS, and the BIOS FLASHBACK+ LED starts flashing.

4. After the flashing BIOS process is 100% completed, the BIOS FLASHBACK+ LED stops flashing and be off.
