Question Msi z270 Sli plus Ecc Ram

I'm seeing a deal on ddr4 ecc ram right now, I'm wondering if i can use the ecc ram in this board in non ecc mode.

No. You're not limited by the chipset necessarily, the CPU has to be able to support ECC memory.
For Intel, that's no less than a Xeon. Consumer (i3/i5/i7/i9) does not support ECC memory.

I'm aware that it doesn't support ecc functionality, but would the ram work in my board without the ecc function

No, that's not how things work. RAM is either ECC, or it's not. It's not like an XMP profile that can be enabled or disabled.
