In general, MSI is known for poor Quality Control, which is why I won't touch them for client builds, see too many arrive DOA or have components go bad within a month or two. If you get a good one, they are pretty good, as a builder I don't like taking chances and having to RMA and rebuild. I stick with Asus, the Rock, and GB.....their mobos are much more dependable from the Quality Control end

Since i only got old thermal paste i went ahead and bought a tube of "Gelid GC-Extreme" which i only heard great things about. I usually take some time and spread my thermal paste as evenly as i can across the IHS. The Gelid GC-Extreme has a quite high viscocityty hough and is difficult to spread because of this even with the included little spatula. I've read that you can heat up the paste before appication to make it easier to work with wonder what would be the best way to do this, put it under a lamp for a couple of minutes or do you recomend another method?

Maybe i'm wrong but i've always thought that it's better to spread the paste evenly across the IHS of the CPU.

I always spread a very thin layer that cover the whole "surface" of the IHS and i'm careful not to use to much paste. Never used the "pea" or the "X-shape" method though. I get the feeling that if you use these methods their's a risk that, despite the pressure from the cooling element, the paste won't cover the whole IHS. But maybe i'm wrong.
