MSI Z97 Gaming 5 - no keyboard/mouse on startup

So I got a new motherboard, installed it and everything is running fine except for the fact that once windows starts the keyboard and mouse no longer work. I can use them just fine in bios, but no where else. I've tried buying a PS/2 adapter for my keyboard but it's not recognized even in bios. USB and legacy options are enabled and fast boot is disabled. Hoping someone can help

Make sure you are using HID compliant mouse and keyboard.

Both the keyboard and mouse are hid compliant, this is so frustrating!

Remove your mouse and keyboard and plug it back in to see if they are recognised.

Try different mice and keyboards.

Boot into safe mode (F8) and try a Computer Repair.

If that doesn't work then try a Windows re-install.

I've tried 3 different keyboards, no change. Looks like I'm out of luck, I can't repair or reformat, once windows starts the keyboard and mouse no longer respond (lights on the naga mouse actually turn off) even in safe mode.

I swapped from an older gigabyte z87, maybe I should change them out and see if that works?

Try the swapout and if that doesn't work then try a Windows re-install.

Nothing works and I can't reformat, no mouse or keyboard input. Disabled the ehci/xhci hand off and now the lights on the devices stay on, but still do not function.

im having this same problem but it was working fine until i installed the intel host driver for the 3.0 ports

How do u solve your problem when u cant control your mouse and keyboard? i also facing the same issue but cant find a way to do it 🙁
