MSI Z97 Gaming 5 to MSI Z97A Gaming 7, Clean Install?

Hello. I just finished assembling a computer with the MSI Gaming 5 and a 4790k, and I did a clean install of Windows 8.1. The MSI Z97A Gaming 7 just went on sale, so my question is if I swapped from the Z97 Gaming 5 to the Z97A Gaming 7, do you guys think I'll be able to boot with no issues? Or will I have to perform a clean install again?

Generally speaking it is always best to do a clean install when changing major hardware components, it minimise the chance of problems down the line. However you can be lucky, especially if your going from the same brand. You might get issues from windows regarding re-activation though. Some people have had issues others ( http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1759681/fwiw-hassle-windows-reactivation-motherboard-replacement.html ) not at all. Double check before going ahead.

Thanks for your reply. It ended up booting just fine. All I had to do was re-activate windows.
