Hello,
New builder here. I haven't been able to get my new build to turn on. I recently tried to breadboard my build, and here are the parts:
Motherboard - MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition
PSU - Rosewill HIVE 750W
CPU - Intel i7 4790K
HSF - stock one that came with CPU
RAM - G.Skill Ares 16GB (8GBx2)
When I try to power it on, almost nothing happens - the CPU and PSU fans don't spin, I hear no beeps from the little speaker thing I had connected to the motherboard, and I see nothing on my monitor. The only thing that does happen is that the blue light on the mobo briefly blinks for half a second and goes out. I double checked I had everything connected properly.
24 pin and 8 pin CPU connectors plugged in - checked
Case speaker for troubleshooting mobo plugged in - checked, no beeps
Tried one and two RAM sticks in different configurations - checked
Carefully inspected the CPU slot on the motherboard for bent pins - checked
I'm pretty confident the PSU is in working order, as it passes the paperclip test and plugging it into a power supply tester. For the motherboard I've managed to keep the light on by using a screwdriver to "short" the connectors on the jumper to reset the CMOS but still can't get the system to post or even turn on the fans.
I suspect my motherboard is dead. I'm on the verge of RMA'ing it and getting a replacement but I would like to hear any tips that I might have overlooked in getting my build to turn on. I don't want to return a perfectly good motherboard and later find out I screwed up somewhere else or it was another part that was dead.
