Hey guys, I'm back! I just had another quick question. I realize one of the 2 monitors I will need to plug into the motherboard (3 total, main going to GPU) has a female DVI port connection on the motherboard. Assuming the monitor's included HDMI cable is standard, I will need an adapter to convert it. Is "DVI-D 24+1 Pin Male to HDMI Female M-F Adapter Converter for HDTV LCD Monitor" what I'm looking for? Here is what I'm just about to order, please let me know, thank you!

Solution
that looks correct, yeah

DVI cables have pins, and mobo/gpu/monitors have holes
HDMI cables have a hole in the middle, and mobo/gpu/monitors have the flat blade in the center

i usually buy my cables from YellowPrice / YellowKnife / YellowWhatever, and they've been great. i think they ship from Markham.

It said it was included in the order, so I'd assume it'll come with one for each monitor since I ordered two monitors. If not I have a few expensive HDMI cables laying around that'll work fine if they don't come with them.

Here's the package info:

"Package Contents

AOC E2476VWM6 24in Widescreen LCD Monitor
Monitor Stand and Base
AC Power Cord
VGA Cable
HDMI Cable
Installation Disk w/
Drivers
AOC Software
User's Manual
Warranty Information"

So I've seen on ebay that there is DVI and DVI-D variants and of those two variants 24 +1 pin or 24 + 5 pin. The one I linked is DVI-D 24 + 1, are you sure that'll work?

On your motherboard (your hooking this up to your mobo right?), check the specs and see if the DVI on the mobo is either DVI-I or DVI-D. Is the DVI your talking about DVI-I and DVI-D? Or just DVI?

yeah, the mobo's DVI port is a standard DVI-D since it's missing those 4 pins around the flat bar on the right side. and for converting to HDMI, that's all you need anyways. even if it had those other 4 pins to make it DVI-I, they would get ignored

by the way, i use HDMI-to-DVI hybrid cables a lot in my setups, all work 100% with no issues at all. just plug-n-play. yellowknife / yellowprice cables. i probably have a few spares of various lengths by now...

Ignored but would still fit? Just curious, answer isn't necessary on that one. Thank you giantbucket for that info, I won't forget it. >< Order placed!

Hybrid cables you say? Interesting, but probably the more expensive option if I already have the cables, yeah? I got this little adapter for 4 bucks on ebay, which would be about 3.25 USD.

Edit:

I can't decide who deserves the best solution more, you were both very helpful in your own right so I'll give it to giantbucket since he replied first and more often. Thank you guys. ^^;

well, depends on where those extra 4 "connections" are. if they're on the male cable, then it won't be able to plug in since there's no female holes. if the extra connections are on the mobo/gpu, then they don't affect any connection and if the cable or that converter block doesn't have the matching pins, then they get ignored. no big deal.

boys need girls, but girls don't need boys. now take THAT and apply it to the cable situation! 😛

True, need the holes for them to fit, makes sense logically. Thank you so much for being good at teaching, I love detailed informative replies. :)

Edit: I don't particularly like the dongos poking out either but it won't be too bad, I got a HUGE new desk coming next week and that will leave plenty of space on all sides of my tower.
