Whats up friends :)

So like most people here I am a lover of gaming. My time spent gaming is split pretty evenly between PC and PlayStation. I have recently moved to London and I'm now busy getting my plans together for my new setup.

The goal is to basically have my PC and my PS4Pro connected to one monitor. The PS4Pro upscales its output to 4K, and so I would like to have a 4K monitor to make full use of that. My PC will be running an i5+GTX 1060, and so I'm not entirely sure if my PC will be able to reliably game at 4K, which is fine by me TBH.

Would it be possible to find a 4K monitor for the PS4Pro, while using the same monitor at lower resolutions on the PC? And am I taking any risks here (i.e. blurry images when gaming on PC)? Or am I just being ridiculous?

The display side of things has never been my speciality so I'd appreciate the input :)

Regards
J

The ps4pro usually hangs around the 1440p resolution.

You don't need to lower the resolution on your pc to use the 4k monitor. At the desktop it won't be a problem and if you want to game at 4k (or a lesser resolution) just lower the settings or lower the resolution so you can get the desired performance.

The Dell 24 S2417DG will actually be the best option for you. I don't know your budget so I'm not sure what to recommend you therefor.

It is totally possible, just remember to turn of scaling or you will get blurry images. Here is some random persons experience with it: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/290013-my-experience-gaming-1080p-on-4k-monitor/

Okay there is some things to clarify here when speaking about this.

Firstly most people speaking "4K" are talking what they 'see' at CostCo/Walmart video being played, aka 4K Resolution. They in turn believe Games (Console or PC) should just 'display' as easily. The article is more talking 4K SIZED screen and display, not actual 4K Resolutions.
Secondly a BluRay or other 'video source' already has the 'data' (movie show etc.) at 4K detail and resolution and all it is doing is 'reading it' off the data storage (Youtube, BluRay, CableTV) and just 'displays' the data to the screen. It doesn't necessary do much PROCESSING to render the image.

This leads to the second part, Console games touted as '4K' gaming you really need to reread carefully, it is 4k UPSCALE resolution. which is to say taking a 1080P (1920x1080 display) and resizeing it to 4K SIZED screen and then 'filling in the blanks' with the 4 nearest dot's colors to fake it. BUT they are NOT using 10

PC games until Andromeda were NOT created with native 4K modeling / textures. You could MOD a game like GTA V with a 4K Mod, that replaces the Mesh modelling (the framework that makes objects you see) and the textures in 4K. BUT in both cases you need at LEAST 1080 GTX and most likely DUAL 1080 GTX to per all the reviews and article testing it. See the demands are way too high to support 4K on PC RIGHT NOW, but they are working on it, even with a TOP END PRO Gamer Rig. THIS IS WHY CONSOLES DUE UPSCALE NOT TRUE 4K.

So the way to get around it is to LOWER graphics down (medium or low) and keep the SCREEN SIZE 4K to increase performance. But this is still demanding and I too am a owner of a 1060, and I can attest to the demands are too much for the card. I currently run 1440P (2560x1440 @ 144HZ) and seen plenty of drop down in PUBG and otherwise because even that is highly demanding.

Thanks a million for all of your responses guys!!

Originally I was going to go with a decent 4K monitor, a PS4Pro and my i5/GTX1060. However, seeing as I won't be able to truly game in 4K with my hardware, I feel like splashing out on a 4K monitor is pretty redundant.

So I think I'll just grab the original PC and a 1080p monitor. Stick to the status quo hey 😉 I think I'll still grab the PS4Pro, as I've heard of some decent performance boosts and enhances to the image quality even on 1080p.

Either way, that settles my original concerns. Thanks dudes, you rock!
