Multiplayer games without Internet connection with LAN

Hii all,
I just got holidays and my friend took his laptop to my home, I connected it to my pc via a RJ45 cable and I can see the folders shared by him.
I want to ask that which games can I play with Multiplayer now without Internet connections, because my router has been broken. Please suggest me some racing or action games. And also how to connect, please help.
I don't know how to connect.
I have COD 4 MW, COD MW3, NFS rivals, NFS most wanted and some like this. BF2,3,4. Please help.

Most of those are server-based, and an Internet connection is required.
The last multiplayer LAN games I played were Diablo II (not III) and Unreal Tournament. Those are all pretty old. Most games now require a persistent online connection to play (which is a significant reason I've not bought many non-MMO games).

I just searched and I found that I can play COD 4 MW with LAN play, without Internet connection.

Nice. If I were more into shooters (I'm deaf in one ear), I'd probably try that one for that reason alone.
