I want to buy a new 3440x1440 LG display for working with Unreal Engine. I already have a 1080P monitor and GTX 960 card. But I read that GTX 960 does not support 1440 and I also want to keep the other monitor for dual display. Now, I am thinking of buying an AMD Radeon RX5700 which can handle the 1440 display and is also less expensive compared to NVIDIA models. But I do not want to sell my GTX 960 card. So, can I keep the Radeon and 960 both and connect the Radeon to the 1440 display and the 960 to the 1080P display and make an extended screen?

the RX 5700 is more powerful than the GTX 960 and will offer better performance using any modern engine.

i doubt the 960 can do much for gaming at 21:9 1440p.

i'm currently using an RX 6700 XT @ 3440x1440p.
it can't even get near 100fps with higher settings in more demanding modern games.
Cyberpunk 2077 with a mix of med-ultra settings and no RT effects runs ~65-75fps.
most UE4 games do slightly better with higher in-game settings.

Solution
If you have two pcie x16 slots, you can run dual cards.
That assumes your psu is strong enough for both.
But, there is no real advantage.
The best connection for the 1440P monitor is going to be via displayport.
Assuming your old monitor can connect to the GTX960, go ahead.
Side monitors are relatively static and do not impact gaming performance.
At the very least, buy your monitor which will be a long term investment.
See how it does with your GTX960. Likely, you will be pleased.

When you think you really need a graphics card upgrade, good luck in finding one today.
Let alone at anything near 2x MSRP.
Sell the GTX960 or keep it as a spare.

I will be using it mostly for level designing in Unreal Engine. I am a beginner right now so I do not require that much power but as I am planning to get a new monitor, I wanted to know if 3440x1440 will be fine with a single GTX 960 for game designing stuff. I can always connect my 1080P monitor for gaming again.
 
Strong graphics cards are used for fast action games.
Higher resolutions and more eye candy increase the load.
For normal desktop work, even integrated graphics is sufficient, and it will play HD movies.
Some apps can use the compute capabilities of a graphics card o enhance performance.
That will be app specific.

My suggestion is to buy your monitor first and see how you do.
You always have the option to reduce he resolution of your 1440P monitor or the settings to get the result you want.
By getting the monitor first you will know better what, if anything, YOU might need.
