I've been reading a lot of recommendations here recently for a build for music production and photo editing. I am not a professional and was just going to spend about $1600, but somehow changed my mind to spend more for a better build. I am not that much interested in gaming for now but I might start playing as I am investing a lot anyways.

For photo editing I mainly use Lightroom and some Photoshop CS with Dell U3014 which I will continue to use with my new build.
For music production, I use Nuendo and lots of VSTs. I already have external midi interface.

I am not sure if I will be overclocking. I don't even have a good knowledge about it anyways.
Just simply thinking it might be better and stable to invest more to the system and use as is.

Here's what I came up with. What do you think?

For photo editing ur main concern is getting a very good monitor as it will definitely decides ur photo editing results (advice from my friend who is a photo editor professional, and that's why lots of photographer use Mac because of the Retina or iCinema product). Seriously, this thing will take u to anew level of editing because the result clearly shown in those monitor compared to using a standard fullhd monitor. so my advice is go for a higher res monitor (2560x1440p) and then support it with a build that can handle that monitor well.

Thank you for the input. As I mentioned above, I already have Dell U3014, which is one of the best IPS monitors for photo editing. It is 2560x1600. I have gone for iMac 27 in the past and sold it after 3 month as I wasn't able to get comfortable with OSX. I liked the screen though.

Well I forgot to check that one resolution. What I am thinking of ur build is, ur PSU is overrated while ur GPU is underrated for each other. u can upgrade to a much much better 780Ti to handle that resolution nicely and u can save a few bucks going with good 850W PSU. that way ur rig will be optimized better. since u don't have a problem with budget, then the rest of the component is up to your choice. What I can optimized is only the gpu and psu.

I've been gradually climbing up from NO GPU to GTX780.. and again being tempted by what you said. On ebay its $660 brand new..just $160 difference from GTX780.:pt1cable:

u can get those extra bucks by saving from switching ur psu and u'll need it anyway since u'll keep using ur impressive resolution monitor. see it in the benchmark in this forum, u can easily find that 780Ti will handle any game nicely at that resolution while 780 will struggle a bit. Keep in mind that both cards using GK110, the same as their Tesla that is used for workstation needs, means it will do nicely in photo editing, and 780Ti is unlocked all of their SMX so better performance for gaming and rendering. go for it bro.hehe
