I'll keep this short since this is off-topic.

- The size and weight of the Asus is within Ultrabook specs. The only reason it can't be marketed as an Ultrabook is because it doesn't have a touchscreen. Since none of the Macbooks have a touchscreen, the comparison is valid.

- The math is what the math is. Expressing read/write times with seconds as the denominator distorts the measurements. It exaggerates one end of the scale while understating the other end of the scale. Only when you have seconds as the numerator do you get a flat, undistorted measurement. If you always had a fixed amount of time you could wait, then MB/sec would be the preferred measurement. But since your time is flexible while the data to be written/read is a fixed amount, sec/MB is the appropriate measure.

- Google does not include SD cards in its products because they are pushing cloud storage and cloud apps via Google Drive and Google Docs. It has nothing to do with Apple.

- Yes Apple tweaks certain designs or custom-orders certain parts. So does nearly every other company who sources their parts. The fact remains that they do not actually produce anything. If you open up a Macbook, all the components are commodities, just like every PC. (It's worth pointing out that the Macbooks are made by Quanta, not Apple.) The actually advancements in tech are made by the companies who create the parts - e.g. Micron, Samsung, Sandisk, Toshiba, Intel, ATP, SK Hynix for flash memory. Apple is just a customer - they might ask if they can make a faster or more reliable product, but they're not actually involved with making it faster or more reliable.

- And lest I come across as Apple-bashing; Apple makes really, really good software. That's something they do make in-house. I think they come up with some of the best user interface designs in the industry.
