Hey guys! Cut me a little slack, I'm brand new, but I'm curious what the community has to say about this:

What gaming peripherals - specifically for PC gamers - do you guys own that you simply couldn't live without? If you play MMOs or FPS's and use a microphone or headset, which do you use? Are there any specific ones you guys definitely love? Same deal with keyboards, gamepads, and other peripherals. Anything you guys know you'd run out to replace the instant it broke?

Full disclosure: I'm putting together an article with some of these must-have peripherals and comparisons between them for Tom's, and I'm curious what the community wants to hear about. :) I mean, I could go on about my own Logitech G15 and my beloved G5 mouse, but I'm not terribly familiar with USB gamepads or non-headset microphones, and I'd love to hear from people who love theirs!

Thanks!

i couldn't play my games without my massive altec lansing 5.1 surround sound speaker system or my game crysis i know its old but it the best game! :pt1cable:  :sol: 😱

You know, I didn't even really think about speakers! I've been thinking about headsets versus microphones, but I had almost forgotten the importance of a good surround sound system.

Do any of you guys play MMOs or games that use voice chat? If so, what do you do about your speakers - just talk into the speaker over the sounds of gameplay? Does that work out okay?

G15 and G9 and any gaming grade mousepad (Roccat sense at the moment) but most of all, a supportive but comfy chair !!

Tons of Razer kit here because it's awesome...
Keyboard: Tarantula
Mouse: Lachesis
Headset: Barracuda... until the Megalodon comes out... 7.1 headset? YES PLEASE!

It's like the squirrel is following me...

I will never get rid of my intellimouse. I did smash it with my fist onetime, when i lost, and it blew a few buttons off. I got'er back together.. It has a little something inside that rattles at times, but it still works. HAHA. It's seem maybe hours of Battlefield 2142 and others... COD4

you already in the forum long before i was born. so i had no choice.. just follow you.. 😛

and your mouse is still on sale on newegg!

Wow - awesome suggestions, guys!

I think I have an old Intellimouse lying around - part of the comparison is going to be whether the high-end, expensive "gamer" branded stuff is really any better than a good old fashioned reliable mouse. Thanks!

I'll also definitely make sure to include some Razer love in there too - I had a Lachesis for a while and loved it even though it got dust in the sensor an awful lot. :)

I can also speak to the need for a very VERY comfy chair. Sitting in something uncomfortable can take the edge off everything else being right, lemme tell ya!

Thanks so much, keep em coming if anyone has any more!

Dude, I'm not that old.

Of course my mouse is still on sale, its a GOOD MOUSE! Mine is black though, I got it in a keyboard/mouse combo off Mwave like 5 years ago. It's been smashed and bashed and still holds up. Most newer "gaming" mice have dual small mouse buttons on the left side. I'm not a fan of that. When I really get into it, the large buttons on either side are always there. Larger surface area = better chance I will hit it in the heat of battle. And you ALWAYS have to set the middle mouse button "push in scroll wheel" to KNIFE... It's so deadly. COD4 you can smack that knife so fast. SLASH EM!

I never got into the expensive mouse with weights and crazy keyboards. Who really needs them? I'm an economical gamer. I do have an i7 but I sold off my old case, mobo, ram, cpu, cooler for my current i7, mem, mobo, case. The difference I had to pay was $350. And my old system was 2.5 years old. Granded I had some help from a buddy and swapped some parts to sweeten the deal for the buyer, but I got what I wanted. He is a little ticked because he has an i7 C0 and I have an i7 D0. And I'm at 4GHz on air and he's at 3.9Ghz on a VERY ellaborate water system. But he beats me with his gtx285..

A saitek eclipse keyboard for playin in the dark, no fancy button macros or anythin tho, a decent wired laser mouse, for sound I use some medusa 5.1 surround headphones and mic and have a 2.1 speaker setup for tunes etc. And a massive steelseries mousemat. I have all my game audio and voicecomms running thru the headset which can make vent hard to hear mid fight but at least you dont get extra gamesounds or feedback coming over the mic like you do running speakers and a mic.

poor guy. How come a C0 didnt pass the 4.0 mark with WC? many people did that.

I need a mouse with two buttons on the side (for the thumb), they're great for navigating in the browser and help a lot in mmo's when loging skills to them (and also in all other games).

It's important that the mouse has a laser sensor because they don't need to get cleaned up all the time and are very precise. I personally prefer mouses with cables (no recharging less expensive AND faster reaction for fps).
My favorites are the Logitech Mx line. these are just great mouses!

If you live in a single-family house (like me) buy some 2.1/5.1 speakers theyre just worth it. It's important to have a good sub woofer.
In combination to the speakers I personally love to have a very light headset with no bow toching the head.
I'm using the Plantronics Audio 450. It's very nice to have an in ear headset and a free head, the sound is only stereo but as a gamer you normally only use the headset when you're talking to other people so you don't need SUPER quality and surround sound stuff....

If you live in a appartment building the whole thing changes buy a more expenive head set that doesn't feel bad after hours and if you want also has surround sound... you do not have to buy speekers

I used to play WoW (yes I know) and after hours of wearing a headset my ears just hurt and the head was sweaty....

I personally also like to have two minitors but that's nothing you would need.

Some people buy reallly expensive keyboard I think their just not worth it... I still use a 7 year old key board from logitech (quality as always) and I see no reason to buy a new one.

Kind regards Erdinger

yeah thats the thing..

What happens when I drink and play games? My head would hurt and I'd be running in circles, shooting the sky...At least with a mouse it's familiar and my hand just snaps for a headshot. My brain will be to busy with hysterical cometary over teamspeak.

I'm interested in reading about the super expensive G19

I'm also interested in finding out how the old Zboard (and the Fang) compare to other peripherals.
