OR My 2nd choice

2 TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s HDD

( and i will not be overclocking, everything stock, intill i learn how to overclock..lol )


videocard comes 2 weeks later. prolly ati 6950 or 6970 hd card

i will be doing gaming and video editing, so what would be best set-up.. thanks guys for any help you can give..

OK, your first choice is based on the outdated LGA 1366 platform (succeeded by the LGA 2011 platform). Your second choice is much better. It will give you better performance now and the ability to upgrade to Ivy Bridge later this year. For your GPU choice, if you're aiming at the 69xx series of GPUs, I'd recommend the 78xx series that was recently released. These cards will generally outperform their previous generation counterparts and do it using significantly less power and heat. The price right now is a bit high but I can tell you from experience that I'm very happy with my purchase (I own the 7870).

2nd build is better and more futureproof (the socket)

If you dont OC maybe save money and just get 2500 not 2500k

Maybe 1TB HDD?

The £ saved on the CPU and HDD could go toward even better GPU

I would go for second choice - overclockable - newer chipset = faster - still makes updates and improovements ..

^as he said,sandy bridge 1155 platform is better than 1366.from you second choice,minus 8gb of ram.DDR3 1600mhz 8gb is more than enough.gtx 680 for $500 is a great deal but if you are not willing to spend $500 than wait for 660ti or 670.69xx are hard to find and are replaced with 7xxx cards.i hope,in two weeks,670 will be out.

This week lots of SSD on sale for dollar a gig. Go with SSD boot 60 to 120 gb. No 1 thing Windows pc does most often is boot. Put system on SSD and rest on 2 TB. Save much time on virus scan and other things too.

get a SSD, wait for the Nvidia 6xx series Gfx to come out as if the 680 is anything to go by they'll be good
