I had a 1 tb version which I was happy with, so I bought a 2tb version, but it's making audible dry grinding noise that I can hear from across the room. I know it's the HDD, because when I turned it off the noise stopped. I'm asking if I should rma it or is it normal. I can't seem to find any info on the specific model. It's just that I'm trying to do a quiet build but now there's a new sound.

Usually it's seriously bad to hear such sounds from an HDD, as it as an well known signal of HDD can die pretty soon.

Are you noticing any reduced speed, or weird behaviour whenever you open files from it.
If yes then go for RMA.

A hard drive making new noises is never a good thing.

Ignoring what any software says, what is your plan if it decides to die in the next 5 minutes?
