My compaq laptop battery icon is not working

I have a Compaq Prestario CQ61 (laptop). The battery icon on the screen is there but it's not showing that it is charging. The light beside the outlet where the plug-in goes to charge it, is showing thats in plugged in and also the light on the laptop is showing that it is charging. But the icon on the screen is not showing that it is charging, even though the battery power is going up.

Usually the battery icon disappears when plugged into power adapter. I would worry if it did not show it loosing power when on battery.
