Hello, a day ago, as usual, i shut down my computer everytime i stopped using it. Today, i booted up my computer, but then, it starts to make a loud "Bzzzzzzzz" sound, i don't know why this had to happen, i haven't done any changes to my computer, and this sound won't stop unless i shut the computer down. After opening the case, there are no cables touching the fans or anything, then i closed the computer case, boot up my computer, and then it starts to make a loud buzzing sound again, sometimes it can go quiet, but it still makes the buzzing sound, and then it goes loud again and it became really annoying. I would appreciate any solution, this sound is driving me crazy.
Thanks in advance.

Back up any important data that is on the hard drive. Then with the computer turned off, remove the hard drive from where it is mounted and carefully place it on the bottom of the case, maybe on some foam rubber or cardboard. Then power back up and see if the buzzing persists and is coming from the hard drive. You should be able to confirm if it is the hard drive by touching it with your finger to feel any vibrations.
Hi,

This could be a power supply buzzing or even just bearings on the fans. It would be easier if it where the fans as much easier and cheaper to change. i would suggest booting up with the fans unplugged. If this works then one at a time plug them back in and then by process of elimination tadaa you have your answer. If not try swap out the power supply. Or try booting the system with the side off stick your head and listen to where the buzz comes from. it has worked for me in the past.

If you have top fans or case side fans check em 1st if not it might be the hard drive if that is it always make sure your hard drive is always in an horizontal position if its inclined or similar it might get damaged faster but that is pretty hard as most HDD can last for 10 years or more depending on use and luck

Thanks for all the replies, but:

@Zaweri: I don't have a DVD drive, last time the cables touched the fans, and then i detached the cable. And i taken off the DVD drive.

@Onefurrybanana and gareththegiant: I have swapped my power supply, it's still buzzing, i'm afraid if it's coming from my hard drive, and okay, i'll try to hear where the sound is coming from. Thanks.

I've checked all the fans. But yeah, i think the sound is coming from my hard drive... What do i do?

yeah backup all the important data as fast as you can if its the harddrive you should back your data fast cuz it might die before you can save your data i had that happen to me before anyways having a drive for backups only (try not to run games or any other program on it) and it will last a ton but the idea is to save and keep your data safe

Yup, i can confirm it's coming from the hard drive, i've touched my finger on it and it's vibrating from there. And i've backed up all my games and data on my external HDD. What do i do now? Is there any way to fix this buzzing noise?

Apology about the late reply.

nope that noise is certain death to evade that certain death effect make sure your hdd is always in the best horizontal position it can be cuz i had a 20gbhdd (was in the beginning of the 2000) that started to make noises after a few months or a year or 2 i started having a very similar sound after noticing that and always making sure my hdds (always have 2 on my system) were in a good horizontal (book like position in a table) position i never had a hdd with that problem again

My HDD looks like a book in a table, but i'm still having that problem.

Ok, at the moment, my hard drive stops buzzing, but i'm pretty sure if i restart my computer, it will start making the noise again

EDIT: I don't know why the hard drive stopped buzzing, but i'm not sure what happened to it.

Better not take a chance though. If you intend to use it, don't use it to store important files. Also, remember to pick a solution if the question has been answered!

Allright, the question is answered, it's coming from my hard drive, but now, the loud buzzing noise has completely stopped, 2 days since it stopped making that sound. However, does this loud buzzing noise indicates that my hard drive is dying?

it takes a while for it to die but it will die soon it can happen any time dont take risks with portables its worse than with internals (i had that happen with both) get a new hdd and try not to use that one much (if you can still use it try but still its a risk of losing data man belive me i have had that happened to me and its not nice lol)
