my computer keeps freezing up

it just happened reacently, my pc will freeze everything but the mouse were im forced to hard reset and every time it has happened i was ether converting a video or was downloading an update on steam

im running windows 10 Pro

i have custom built desktop with and 2nd gen i5 and 18gbs of ram

i have not installed any new hardware

this all just started happening this month and all i can think is it may have something to do with recent windows updates

this all just started happening this month and all i can think is it may have something to do with recent windows updates

I'm not sure if you did this before, but just to exclude a hardware issue and save some time, Try this simple steps before we do anything else: open "Task Manager" By right clicking on the taskbar, that's the long bar in the middle at the bottom. when a four ground window pops up, go to the "Performance" Section and watch out for the "CPU USAGE" percentages, while you're doing your usual work on the machine. ALSO ! Look for the "Hard drive" and see if it's being used excessively by your OS Win 10.

If one of these 2 components show high % usage, let's say for longer than usual, like 5 minutes or more, it is definitely a software issue, that might be related to windows updates or something else.

Also please check your system temperatures if you can to see if it's operating at normal levels.

it seems to freeze when transferring files to my HDD which i know isnt failing cause i just got it last year and crystaldiskinfo says its good

reinstalling windows 10 seemed to fix the issue

Its also a pc 6 years ago, my guess is one of the rams dying,

even after swaping ram nothing changes its the same old thing

-try to install a program *freeze and crash*

-extract a file *freeze and crash*

-try to download a game *freeze and crash*

-move any file over 2gbs *freeze and crash*

im starting to think its my SSD but the crystaldiskinfo says its good

could it be a bad sata cable????

ok i replaced the sata cable that goes to my ssd and also moved the new sata cable to a new port so one of those 2 fixed it

it was the psu after replacing the system worked flawless
