I have had my custom PC for about 6 months, and recently (about 3 weeks ago) it began to just restart. The restarts occur randomly, mostly when playing games, and it is not because of overheating, as my temps are 30C for GPU and 55C for cpu under load. I have tried almost everything and am getting very desperate, any help would... help. :) bluescreenview says something about it being caused by ntoskrnl.exe

sorry forgot to add that stuff
my system is: Windows 8.1
CPU Athlon x4 760K
GPU EVGA GTX 750ti
MOBO MSI A78M E35
PSU Corsair CX430
RAM 8 GB crucial ballistix
HDD Seagate barricuda 1TB
SSD Kingston 160GB(I think)
I am doubting the temps too, but that is what speedfan says so that's what I said.

I forgot to add some stuff as I was tiredly writing this last night, when it restarts, a seemingly random color appears on my monitor, and then goes black. Through my headphones I can hear a horrid buzzing noise, and there is no BSoD

did you scan for virus with a decent AV program

Is mcaffe decent?

I have 1 stick of ram, that isn't my prob.

my system stays on when it restarts (fan LEDs and the one on my CPU cooler + the fans themselves), Could it still be the power supply? could it be drivers?

It seems that this restart happens more when i am doing a lot of multitasking/gaming, so i guess PSU could be it... is there any way to check if it is the PSU? I should have enough watts for it according to pcpartpicker (around 150 extra under load), so how would it be the power supply?

It should be 150+ extra watts at full usage. (according to pcpartpicker)

Some power supplies do not preform as well as their labeling, never heard anything bad about corsair power supplies. But to get a lower selling price then the competitors, corners might be cut in the manufacturing.
Anyway, is $50 (plus tax/shipping) for the Rosewill 650 watt.

You also might consider wiping the boot drive and installing a fresh copy of the Windows OS. I could just be there are issue deep inside your current Win installation.

How do I completely erase the drive? do I just reinstall windows?
and do you know what "ntoskrnl.exe" is? that is what seems to be causing the crashes, but I cannot find anything about it when I look it up

you do a destructive recovery......or an F disk...

so... I formatted it and reinstalled windows, but it still crashes. Do i have to do it to my 1TB drive too? I tried disconnecting the 1TB drive before and it did not help.

CX series psu sounds like the culprit. It may not be putting out the stated wattage that you need under load conditions you probably need psu. You say it happens under heavy loads and have reinstalled the operating system. Under stress, it sounds like your psu is failing causing a BSOD. Thats my opinion from here. pick one of the psu's from tier 1 or tier 2 500w or a little higher.

I have this problem on my old PC before. First of all check your temps it might be overheating.

Not overheating? What i suggest you to do then is:
1. Remove the RAM, clean it and insert it again
2. Secure your SSD/HDD be sure its not loose

Still not working? It might be your Power supply.

okay, i will order one tonight, lets hope it works! :)

It is not overheating, the drives aren't loose, but i am gonna try cleaning the ram. i will update when i do.

*UPDATE*
I cleaned off the ram and i switched slots with it, it has not crashed and i have been playing the game it crashed most with (starcraft 2) . You may have solved my problem, fine sir.

if it works then great news. if it doesn't work you will have a GOOD PSU, or you can return it and get you money back. I look forward to hearing about your results......

I cleaned the RAM and i put it in a dif slot, and it appears to have worked, I have not gotten my hopes up because things always seem to work, if it does not work i will order new PSU.
