So I just got a new computer, with an AMD r9 285 graphics card, however, playing a game even on standard graphics settings I was getting about 20 fps.. I checked device manager to see if it was connecting through the integrated graphics card or radeon one.. however, both say they are working properly. I went to screen resolution and it says it's connecting via the integrated graphics card.. I then (inadvisably) disabled the integrated graphics card temporarily and the screen went black (fortunately i could remember where to click was and turned it back on).

However, the monitor is connected via the graphics card not the motherboard, and PCI-E are the preferred settings in the BIOS.

So at the moment I really have no clue whats going on. What's worse I just found that I cannot open the BIOS, when I restart and go to the BIOS there is no signal to the monitor when the monitor is plugged into the graphics card or the motherboard.

The motherboard is an ASUS-Z97K

This one, maybe you plug the monitor into the wrong connector?, the r9 285 have his own video ousputs, you must use that ones, not the one on the mb.
