My computer wont recognize my graphics card

I recently had to restore my computer because it got the black screen of death. It would just keep restarting. So i installed a fresh copy of windows vista on it and now my computer wont recognize my graphics card. My computer is a Gateway 1.8 GHz with 2 GB of ram. And the graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce 8500. I'm not for sure if it was the black screen of death. But my computer would not show up on the TV screen only a mouse would. So i would restart it and start windows normally and in safe mode and it still went to the black screen with the mouse. Then i tried to repair it from the vista disk and that didn't help. I also noticed sometimes when ever i would start windows normally it would flash a blue screen and then go back to Start windows normally. It was like it was stuck in a loop of restarting itself.

Did you download and install graphic card drivers from NVidia?

http://www.geforce.com/drivers

Under the manual driver search, select
GeForce
GeForce 8 Series
GeForce 8500 GT
Your version of Windows Vista (either 32-bit or 64-bit)
Your Native Language
All

I'd recommend downloading and installing only the latest WHQL certified driver package.

Thank you, ill try this when i get home. Also could you explain to me what happened to my computer when it got stuck restarting?

Sorry. I don't have an answer for that. It could have been anything from hard drive sector failure, to a simple file corruption, to a fail update installation.
