The file NTLDR is a hidden file in the root directory of
drive. Sometimes I have just turned my PC off for a few
hours letting the system cool down. The problem goes
away. If however it doesn't then it can be hard to fix.
One way I have done it though, If your mate is happy with
the idea. is that your remove your damaged HDD, pop it in
to your mates PC, make it a slave HDD. Bootup your mates
PC. Once booted it will see your HDD as a slave, from
your mates HDD, locate the NTLDR file and copy it over to
your root directory. Power everything down, remove your
HDD and put it back into your PC and the problem will be
solved. I have done this for one PC and it worked great
for me. One thing to keep in mind though, both your PC
and your mates, MUST have the same version of XP, this
includes Service Pack level. (1 or 2)

Hope this helps.

You need to turn the computer ON and press F2 or ESC or DEL
to open the BIOS. Set the boot order to be CDROM first.
Then you boot the XP CD and select the option to open the
Recovery Console (r) or to repair the installation (enter)
and fix the boot.ini file.

You need more instructions and help unless you want to
really ah heck your mates computer.

If you can get into the BIOS before Windows boots the BIOS
or the whole computer is buggered.

Check your computer manual for the proper key to press and
begin pressing the key as soon as you turn the computer
power ON.
