Hello there guys, I've been experiencing something that really shouldn't be happening. I own an Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6700 that I run both at stock speeds and sometimes at the overclocked speed of 2.96GHz. And I have never encountered a game that I play that made my Quad come to it's knees.

Now recently I got Saints Row The Third and my fps constantly dips bellow 30, either on low, medium or high, the difference in FPS from LOW to ULTRA is about 5 FPS, so it's not a GPU bottleneck, and I've also checked with afterburner, in 1280X720 I get ~20-35FPS and the GPU usage is around 50-60%. Is that game so demanding that it requires me a CPU better than a C2Q?! I've searched the requirements and it says as recommended (Any Quad Core Processor (Intel® Core i5 or AMD Phenom™ II X4) or 3.0+ Dual Core CPU). I'm confused. Am I doing something wrong?

Waiting for replies, and thanks for reading.

the qx6700 is a great cpu, but i think maybe you just need a video card upgrade. saints row 3 is probably having trouble running with the older graphics card. i think it favors more newer cards cards with dx11.

Well then there you go, upgrade your platform LIKE I SAID...

It's not the plataform. I ran tests, and it seems like the FPS is jumpy at LOW, going from 50FPS down to low 20s. What's causing this are Frametimes. Those dip down to 100ms very frequently. Again if you don't know what you are saying, don't push it down my throat. My system is well capable of running this game no issues. I run heavier games on a daily basis. Stop blaming it on the hardware.

How am I not making sense? I've told everyone this. It's not the graphics card. I'm getting high frametimes, I've seen this on the AMD problem with crossfire, and I don't run any SLI setups or anything. It might be a driver issue, It's not the graphics card that can't run it.

what if we all just got trolled?

and if the your qx outperforms the q9650 at that overclock, why not run the game at that overclock?

I know, will probably search around for a HD 5000 series card or GTX 500 series card, not too sure as of yet. I'll use my 9600GT till it gets to it's knees, I still play Far Cry 3 @720P on ultra with around 30 FPS so it's fine as of now.

Sorry for replying to this sooooo late.....I have a q9650, Asus P5Q3, gtx 550 Ti, 6GB OCZ 1333Mhz, Seagate 160GB sata 2(with windows on it), Seagate 160GB sata 2(with all my games on it), WD 250GB sata 1(what I had planned on recording on). I cannot play anything other that Killing Floor and CoD WaW while recording. I should be able to play BF3 on Ultra correct? I have to play it on low even while not recording. I am not sure what my bottleneck is! I have my CPU overclocked to 3.5Ghz, my GPU memory to 2300Mhz, and my shader/clock speed to 1000Mhz. I have tried recording to all 3 different drives, still pretty much unplayable with like 20 fps. I have tried Fraps, and Bandicam. Not sure what else to do, if someone could please help that would be awesome! Thanks

Start a new thread - recording and gaming at the same time is extremely CPU-intensive. Or get a newer GTX and use ShadowPlay.

Just noticed this was a necro thread.
