My current setup - considering a 1440p display

Late in 2015, I finally got around to getting a gaming PC. I upgraded a few parts like the GPU - here is my current setup:

Intel Core i7 4790K (4.0 GHz)
Nvidia GTX 980TI MSI Gaming Golden Edition
240GB PNY SSD
1TB Western Digital Blue HD
16 GB PNY 1866 DDR3 Memory
ASRock Z97 Anniversary MB
Corsair 750RMx Power Supply

I use this setup to play games and also recently started a YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFnMYN81cvmSXb8fx3Kf2Gw/about

I record both PS4 and PC gameplay using the Elgato HD60. This is one of my concerns with a 1440p monitor - I know the elgato won't capture in 1440p, I just wonder if the game is being played in 1440p, will the elgato still capture in 1080p, and will it also still capture the game audio. Anyone with experience here would be greatly appreciated.

If I do get a 1440p monitor, would it be worthwhile to get one with g sync? Is it necessary, given my current PC setup? Looking at some of the current models on the market, it also needs to have an HDMI port, to allow the elgato to hook up to it. In light of those requirements, could you recommend a monitor? Unfortunately, my MB doesn't support a 2nd card, so adding a 2nd 980ti and going 4k isn't an option really.

Given all of these considerations, what do you think my best bet is? Thank you for your time.

It should work, the aspect ratios are the same, which is the important part.

Gsync is a nice feature but if you do not feel like your games tear, then why pay extra?

4K is great and all but running SLI has its own headaches. I wouldnt bother with 4k until you can have a single card solution that plays 4k at your preferred FPS.

Thanks for weighing in! Right now I'm not really noticing any screen tears. Rise of the Tomb Raider on very high settings looks absolutely incredible, even at 1080p. G sync has such a price premium, too.
