My Windows 8 desktop will not connect to the wireless network in my flat.
My other devices (a Samsung chromebook, and a Nokia Lumia smartphone) connect to the network without any troubles.
I also have a Windows 7 laptop which has been fine connecting to the network although has been troublesome more recently.
The desktop has always connected to other networks fine and when I set up a mobile hotspot on my phone it has no trouble connecting to that.
I should also add that on one occasion I did manage to connect to the network for a brief period before being kicked off.
I do not have access to the router since it is shared with the flat downstairs and is kept there.
Anyone got any ideas?

Here's how I got mine to work. First verify that your computer can connect to other wifi/hotspot/conncections. If it can, then change your adapter settings, hit configure, go to driver, and rollback driver. Should work.

I am having exactly the same problem, with windows 8.1 desk top sees all available networks, and will connect to that of my neighbours, but not to ours. I have done everything that is suggested here above, but still no joy. I have even reset the router, no joy. Other computers in house and phones and tablets connect with no problem.

I was having the same problem. Here is what I did to fix it.

Go to the bottom right and click on the Network Icon
Then right click the network you're trying to connect to
    Select the Properties option
    Open the Security tab
    Click "Show Characters"
Ensure that the password here is the same as the current router password, if it isn't, then change it to the current router password.

Remember that most passwords are case sensitive.
