Question my external hard drive keeps disconnecting?

my external hard drive randomly disconnects and then reconnects seconds later.
i tried all the things people told me to try.
better perfomance
allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
disable usb settings in control panel
Im not sure what to do anymore?

Does slowly jiggling the USB cable (at disk connector end) change the status of the disk i.e. does it result in power-up / power-down of the disk?

i sold my external and bought an internal hdd instead.
