My First Build Is A Nightmare

Hello, I am at my wit's end.

I spent 300+ for these parts and spent half a day for two day trying to built this.

I brought this case as for a microatx build http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LIDU5S/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A micro atx mobo: ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ AMD 760G
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WUUFBW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

corsair cx 500 psu http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092ML0MY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM -(HX316C10FK2/8)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J8E8ZLK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Note: I didn't buy a hard drive nor a gpu. Because I have a 500gb seagate hard drive with a nvida geforce gts 450.

Problem is I cannot boot up. I had psu work but no boot. But after trying to make sure i made no mistake in cable matching, the psu will not work. I tried plugging stuff back and forth, reading the manual, researching, and so on, to no avail.

And the fact the case cannot fully fit my graphic card. The metal part which you screw the card is slightly bigger than the case, thus, i cannot fully push my card in.

So I figure I can return my mobo for a replacement( Im paranoid after forcing the 24 atx pin with all my might on the mobo) and return the psu for one without unnecessary cables and return the case with one that i can fit my card in properly. And I dont think my ram is supported with this mobo, so I may have to return this too

But, I don't know what to look for now. After this trip, I am tired and lack confident in finding a way to make this work.

Any help, suggestions, more explaining on my part, etc?

Solution
well done, you're almost there!

Now all you have to do to get an Internet connection through ethernet is to install the LAN driver. This should come in a disk that came with your motherboard, otherwise you can download it here and put it on a flash drive:

Buy parts that fit together without placing strain on each other and leave enough room for proper cooling. Buy parts that are compatible and listed by the manufacturers as being able to work together. You list so many errors in part choice and assembly it is hard to narrow down what you broke.

Everything seems to be compatible (Fellow 760G MOBO owner)

Everything needs to be plugged in correctly (Ram cards need to be secured in) and all the cords need to be pushed in all the way.

FX-6300(FD6300WMW6KHK),3.5GHz,6C,95W,rev.C0,AM3+ CPU is compatible as well~ check your wires/cords~

Make sure you're using the correct wires and plugging everything in the correct places~

I actually don't see any listed incompatibilities, then.

You shouldn't have had to use "all of your might" to fit any plugs in, it's possible that you broke or warped your 24-pin connector when trying to shove it in the wrong way. Could you take a picture of what you describe with your GPU? I don't really understand how it's not fitting.

Hi No Idea Man! It's going to be ok, take a breath or two. You'll be fine. Everything you listed appears to be compatible. It is possible that you have a defective component but there are ways to figure it out. Don't use 'all of your might' to force anything!

Your motherboard also has integrated graphics. If you install the gts 450 graphics card then make sure the monitor is plugged into the graphics card itself and not the motherboard. But for now you might try removing the graphics card and try to get the system to boot up with the integrated graphics (plug in the monitor to the motherboard's video connector).

You should do review this step-by-step building guide: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/274745-31-step-step-guide-building

If you've done all of the assembly properly and are still having problems then you should review this other troubleshooting guide and read about 'breadboarding' at the end: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

Hope some of that helps.

^^ Ugh what he said~ I tried to submit earlier but I got logged out <_<

760G comes with ATI Radeon 3000 integrated~ So you could hold off on trying to install your 450-GTS (Which I also own and have equipped on a working 760G mobo right now) and focus primarily on getting your computer started. If you cant get your computer to start at all then that means you don't have the right wires plugged in or the wires aren't plugged in the right places or possibly all the way plugged in.

Is the MOBO receiving power from your PSU? (Correct wires plugged in and all of the way?) is your CPU equipped and secured? and your ram cards?

The difference is Iv never had a 6300 and went from 4100 to 8350 (I had to switch to a specific wire to plugN&power up the 8350 and it could be the same for the 6300~ Make sure everything is plugged in all of the way and in the right places(Iv said that alot already xD)

EDIT:
More focus on "The Right Places" part than the right wires I don't want to get you too confused xD~ or it could be defective hardware like the above poster said. +1 on the helpful step-by-step guide above~

Okay, the picture you showed me of the GPU is fine. It is fitting correctly into the socket as intended. As long as it is firmly seated and you cannot simply pull it out without releasing the tab, it is fine.

Is the power switch on your PSU turned to the on position?

Lark, thanks for that guide, and I will do the integrated start.

Hatsun, I will report back with my finding. but it might take a while 5-10 min

I am glad to heard our graphic cards work in the mobo!

ENtomber, it was, but I am going to try again

Ok, i tried doing the just the intergeted route, but it did not work. My psu did not start up, but I did see a green light at the back of my case.

I check the wires the 24 and 4 pins and they were fitted

Are you sure that the power-on switch on the case is properly connected to the motherboard? Its part of a dongle of wires connected to your computer case switches. Does the motherboard have any LED lights that light up when the power supply is connected? Is the switch (located on the back of the power supply) turned on?

Dang, I forgot about those. But I tried looking at the manual and it was confusing the hell out of me (I never did this part before, granted this is my first time but I did before was adding stuff like cpu, harddrive, and ram).

Any help? would picture do?

See step 18 in the 2nd guide that I linked - it has some pictures for connecting the front panel (like the connector in Entomber's pic). You should go through those guides and make sure everything is properly connected. You need to reference the motherboard manual for specific pin arrangement when connecting the front panel connectors.

the most important one is your POWER (not POWER LED) connector.

Your motherboard should include a diagram for connecting those wires, but if not it should be something like this:

There will be 9 pins with 4 on the top row and 5 on the bottom row. These are the orientations to connect the wires:

LED.....PWR
[+] [-] [+] [-]
LED....RESET
[+] [-] [-] [+]

The way that you tell which side is the positive side is there will be a small arrow pointing down on the plastic plug part. The arrow side is the positive side.

t3n: Yeah, but I said my was working just fine before I took it off, just hours ago

SR: Yeah, win 7 64 bit

Entomber: thanks, will try now.
