this is my first from scratch build.

I’m going to be using it mostly for Paradox games, Arma 3 and DCS, and some graphic design work.

the power supply and graphics card were off my last build.

I would like to be able to eventually expand the ram to 64gb, the cpu to a threadripper, and gpu with a 4000 series graphics card. Overclock all three, and without changing any other parts.
Questions, comments, concerns?

I’m just a tad worried as I’ve heard that the r9’s throttle and sometimes blue screen when they boost after using the system for a few hours consecutively. Which is a big no no since paradox games can have u in the chair for 16 hours when you can find the time
That's a crock. Period. The only time a cpu throttles is when it overheats, doesn't matter if it's an r9 or i9 or r3.

The only time a cpu will bluescreen is due to some form of instability in the system, most normally when ppl OC, which even the best OC's are only 99% stable and can take hours of ram usage to find that single blip that shuts it down. A pc with a healthy OS, plenty of power for any contingency and components that aren't stressed by OC values won't bluescreen. If there was proven basis for 'r9's throttle and bluescreen', nobody would spend several thousand $$ to build such a system.

The 5700x is a Ryzen 7, not 9. And as to throttling, that entirely depends on your choice of board and cooler. With a good board with a good VRM configuration and adequate cooling, there is no reason any Ryzen CPU (Or Intel for that matter) should be throttling.
When I said r9 I was talking about my upgrade path as I’d like to keep the same cooler for both, the anecdote of the throttle and blue screen/ game crashes was something I saw on Linus tech tips.

Yeah I just watch Linus tech tips if you know them, and they mentioned that as part of the reason they went away from amd with their new workstations. And considering I do use CAD, and ae, and I do tend to use the pc for a few hours at a time. I had some concerns

Yeah 13th gen is part of the reason why posted this, I wanted to see where everyone’s heads were at with how much more gains we’ll see on this socket. I don’t want to have to really touch another mobo for atleast 5-6 years
If you're considering a 13 gen upgrade later on then you want a board with better VRM's such as this one in the link.
