Cheers peeps, I just put together a new system with my first K Intel chip. Here's the system:
- ASRock Extreme4 Z97
- Intel I5 4690k
- G.Skill 2133 16gb RAM 1.6v
- Crucial BX100 SSD
- EVGA B2 750W
- Be Quiet Pure Rock CPU cooler
- Be Quiet silent wing 2 case fans everywhere (no stock fans)
- NZXT S340 Blue/Black

Waiting to save up for a GTX 980ti card so no vid card for now.

Here's my question. Did i overclock the CPU well? My OC is:
- 4.4 ghz @ 1.2v
- memory cache at 3.9 ghz @ 1.17v
- Input voltage 1.9v

Getting temps in low 60s at full load.

Let me know if this sounds good. Thanks.

That seems like a pretty good overclock to me, you could probably push it just a touch more 😉 but that's the overclocking dream, do what you're comfortable with, nice build, have a good day!
Thanks peeps.

I know i could push it more but i don't need more than 4.4 right now so that was my target. In a couple of years, when i'll need to overclock both GPU and CPU, I'll buy custom watercooling instead of buying a new system.... then i'll really push it.

I think i got an ok chip. Not the best, not the worst. It works which is the essential part.

Nice system! I just put together an eerily similar new system just a couple days ago as well. Same MOBO, Same CPU, but 16g of Gskill Series Z 1866, GTX 970, and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

Getting similar results with my OC. I was able to push it to
-4.7ghz at 1.27v,
-mem cache and voltage auto (mem cache was trying to match the turbo overclock and OC'ed to 4.7 and the auto cache voltage was too hot at 1.31v. I've since manually dialed it back to 3.5ghz @ 1.2v. but haven't stability tested yet
-input voltage at 1.9.

This was stable in p95 small @ about an hour @ peak 84c average 80c before I quit testing it and dialed it back for daily driving @

-4.6ghz @1.212v
-mem cache 3.5ghz @1.2v
-input v1.85
4 hours of P95 small hovers at 70c with a peak of 74c. I'm going to leave it at these setting and start playing with OC'ing the GPU for a bit.

This thread has been a great resource for OC'ing the Haswell.
