My FX-8350 System is running very hot

Hi,

Has any got any idea why my system is running so hot when playing games like World of Tanks?

During games the CPU reaches >80 C. I have no idea as to why as WoT isn't using much of the CPU at all.

Specs:
AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz (no OC)
AMD R9 270X MSI 4G
12GB DDR3 1600MHz
MSI 970 Gaming Mobo

If you need any other info please ask.

Also would getting a liquid cooler for the CPU resolve the issue?

Many Thanks

Your MSI 970-chipset may be over-volting your CPU, especially if it is set on 'Auto'.

Take manual control of your voltages -- and you should be able to drop your CPU volts to lower temps.

You should also be using AMD OverDrive to determine the *Thermal Margin* of your CPU --- other temp utilities are know to be quite buggy.

I'm thinking bad airflow or CPU cooler is not mounted properly.

I had an FX 8350 @ stock speed on stock cooler and it never broke 62c under stress testing.

Using a Hyper 212 EVO I was able to get 4.4GHz @ stock voltage and temps never exceeded 58c.

Also do as Wisecracker suggests, check that your BIOS is detecting your CPU correctly and setting the proper voltage.

Thats what i was thinking as well. Either that or bad thermal paste on there or not enough.

I have got a CPU cooler but it isn't stock. I have a Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO in a push, pull config. And there is no OC.

I thought a 6 2 power phase would be good enough. And I don't know how to manually change the Voltages.... I don't really do very much OCing.

Im thinking it could be a bad airflow. The case isn't that great. But if I used a liquid cooler, do u thing that would help?

The case is an AVP Wolverine I think...

Do you want the core Volts while in game? Also do you want all 8 core volts?

EDIT: Here is what I found after playing 20 mins of WoT

You need to use AMD OverDrive

HWMonitor looks really confused. 1.456v--78C at 45.7 watts ?

You could also try a 'finger-test' on your heatsink. If you pull back a smoking nub, you have a heat issue.

You may be getting an over-volt, or maybe not. That volt reading may well be a Turbo value on a single core with all the other cores down-clocked --- and the temp and wattage readings are obviously wacky.

Which is why you need to use AMD OverDrive for some accurate readings!
