[SOLVED] My gtx 1070 is under performing

I just recently bought a new 144hz monitor so I could play games at 144hz because I knew my computer should have no problem reaching these frames because I've seen it do it before. I previously had just a normal 1920x1080 @60hz monitor and everything ran fine. The new monitor I bought is called the MSI optix mag24c. On GTA 5 I get around 70 to 80 frames with and without v-sync on. My settings are on very high on basically but people have told me that the 1070 shouldn't have any problems with GTA 5. My computer used to not have a problem running GTA but now it does. I have also tried Fortnite and at all low settings it gets up to 144hz but it won't lock and it fluctuates a lot. Jumping off the bus it has a good bit of frame drops. When I get down it levels out somewhat. It was running Fortnite like this after I uninstalled windows and reinstalled. It ran gta the same as it did before when I hadn't uninstalled and reinstalled windows. I have tried uninstalling graphics drivers and reinstalling. I have uninstalled and reinstalled windows. I have tried some other things but I have kind of lost track. I hope I can find a solution because I feel like I'm sort of at a roadblock.

EDIT: Does anyone think that the reason my frames might be low on fortnite at low settings is because of my processor speed?

Alienware Aurora R5
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070
Intel core i7 6700 3.4ghz
16gb ram
256gb ssd
1tb hard drive

just out of curiosity where have you seen a 1070 get a 144 fps? in order to get frames like that you will need a faster gpu. everybody has frame drops jumping off the bus as the gpu is rendering the map it's normal

For solid 144 fps you probably need GTX 1080ti in high max graphic setting, but just little lower your unnecessary important settings and you’ll get solid 144 on your GTX 1070 without problems,

Yeah your gtx 1070 won't get 144 fps in most games with high graphics. You could try to lower your settings in the graphics but still then it'll be hard to have stable 144 fps.

I dont think I ever reached 144fps in triple A titles even with a gtx 1070ti.

Thank u and I have seen it get up there but it never stays exactly there. I have just seen my computer hit those high frames when I was using my 60hz monitor I had before. before. It just seems like my computer should be getting higher frames and not fluctuate so much. In fortnite it just seems like the 1070 should be able to lock the frames easily at all low settings. That makes since for the bus.

Thank u and why is that? I thought the 1070 should easily reach those frames. It does reach them but it won't lock. On fortnite for example, I'll put v-sync on and lower settings all the way down and it still goes below in the spawn area and sometimes when I'm just playing It'll drop some.

Thank u for the feedback. I thought gtx 1070 then everyone is making it out to be. Some of my friends are saying that I shouldn't have any problems running high settings and reaching high frames.
