I just built my first PC about two weeks ago and my graphics card seems to be crashing when I play demanding games. It basically crashes for two seconds then powers back on and everything is fine. It happens rarely when playing FFXIV at max settings and it happens about once an hour playing planetside 2 on max. The weird thing is that the GPU has never gone above 60 degrees according to evga precision X so I'm just kind of confused as to whats going on.

My specs:
4760k
MSI z87 g45 gaming mobo
evga gtx 780 superclocked
16 gb gskill ares RAM
1 tb caviar black HD
250 mb samsung evo SSD
Corsair RM 650 Gold PSU

Could it be that my PSU isn't enough watts for this build? I don't even have anything OCed so I assume that shouldn't be the issue right?

I have up to date drivers on my GPU. My current driver is 355.23 which should be the latest non-beta driver. I heard that the latest 780 drivers have been having issues with crashing though so could that be it? Should I try an older driver?

PSU is plenty. I've got a gtx 780 and never had a driver issue unless I caused it. Temp is fine, a 780 wont even throttle until it hits 75C. If it mostly happens when the card is under load, it could be a bad card. Try running a benchmark like furmark or heaven. I might have an idea, but I want to see what happens with those programs first

The PSU is excellent unless defective and the rest of your components are also pretty good!

This problem can only be solved by trail and error.

Make sure there are no software issues and make sure that all the components are not defective and working properly.

You might have to do quite a bit of trouble shooting to solve this issue - I suggest you call EVGA support because it could be that your video card is defective. EVGA has really good telephone support!

Hey guys so I ran heaven a few times, this is the result I got after letting it run a few times:

FPS: 69.3
Score: 1746
Min FPS: 30.3
Max FPS: 159.3
Settings:
Direct3D11
Mode: 1600/900 8xAA windowed
Preset: Extreme

If it ran multiple times without issue, it could be a stability problem. Use MSI Afterburner. Lower your clock speeds by 25mhz. See if that makes a difference. I know EVGA overclocks all their cards from factory. Maybe you got unlucky and got an unstable one

Sorry I dont know much about OCing so thats kind of confusing. So its a bad thing that it ran heaven multiple times without having issues?

pyr0_m4n might be correct, I suggest you call EVGA and ask them to help you.

If your card is not stable or not performing properly, I suggest you get the card replaced by EVGA.

You don't have to do that yet. I'll walk you through it.
1. Download MSI Afterburner. The beta version is what I use.
2. Install. It will pick up your card automatically.
3. There's 5 sliders. The top one is voltage, it'll be blocked. Look for the sliders marked core clock and memory clock. They'll be bright green compared to the top one.
4. Drag the sliders slightly to the left until they both are down 25mhz. Then try the games again and see if they crash.

Well if I end up doing this wouldn't i basically just be settling for less than expected performance from my card?

That's why it's better to call EVGA, if your card is defective they will arrange an RMA for you.

I doubt it's a problem with the clock speed because the temps would be maxed out at 81 Celsius in most cases.

It's could be a faulty PCI Express slot, Changing to a different slot could help however I recommend you speak with EVGA.

25mhz would end up being about a 10fps drop at most. It'll take up to 2 weeks for EVGA to get you a replacement card. That's two weeks with no card at all.
