I have been playing The dying light recently and have noticed my GPU temperature are 81C solid.

Is this normal ?

Solution
Normal enough. The card is likely throttling back to hold that temperature. Basically just means your GPU is being used to its full potential.

You can use MSI AB and adjust your fan curve. Increase the fan speed at lower temperature points. Maybe set it to 50% at 40c and 60% at 50C and so on. With features like Nvidia's GPU Boost 3.0 that are sensitive to temperature you'll want to give it any edge it can get and that's well beyond its safety window for heat. It has to apply a conservative OC that's going to be stable. All Pascal cards have that feature enabled by default. It basically auto-OC's the core clock depending on certain variables like voltage and heat. Once my 1080 Ti's temp. goes past 55c I get 13MHz penalties that reduce its OC from 2000MHz as the temperature increases. I've never tested to see how much it throttles back before it gets to its real thermal wall. It's like temperature throttling but not really.
