My HDD won't bootup!

My HDD won't bootup. It shows me "windows is loading files" then goes to windows repair even on safemode! All of that happend after a little coin dropped on HDD while running then I heard something like struggling sound for 2~3 seconds and windows was responding strangely so I decided to force shutdown!
Then I decided to use windows installation cd to use cmd and make chkdsk C: .. The checking gave me a lot of "file record segment is unreadable" then I heard a regular beeping sound not clicking I know the difference so I decided to stop the process.
I have checked my data via cmd using notepad browsing method and all of my data are still there and all partitions are accessible! But I am afraid to try to clone it as that may cause more damage, right?
The question is: does "unreadable file" mean data corruption? Or it may happen because heads are damaged? Maybe motor is spin slowly because my HDD is unusually quiet?! Uhh I'm so confused and troubled!
Another thing to know I did S.M.A.R.T using cmd and it stated that status is OK!

Did someone knock over the computer while trying to retrieve the coin?

May be some translation issue but something dropping on a hard drive or the hard drive being dropped is generally not good.

Either way there could be damage and attempting to recover the data may make things worse.

It's an internal HDD. My little brother has put a coin inside the case for no reason!! It has fallen on the HDD inside the case and then I heard that struggling sound for 2~3 seconds and since that day I can't boot up again. I want to get everything back as I'm OCD about changing and losing stuff! 🙁
It's worth mentioning that the HDD doesn't make any noise like clicking or beeping when exploring Data using (cmd-->notepad-->file-->open) from a windows installation CD. Is that a good sign?

Can you open the case and remove the coin?

What device are we dealing with here: Make and Model?



That said: Do you actually mean the DVD/CD drive?

You cannot put a coin inside a HDD without taking the HDD apart and probably destroying it in the process.

A DVD/CD drive has a slot (or tray) in which to insert the media. They may or may not be openable for repairs.

However, if a HDD is truly involved then all I can suspect is that the coin is somewhere creating some electrical short that is interferring with either the power or the data connection.

Even then that is difficult for me to comprehend.

Sorry for my bad words. I edited my comment.
I'm talking about western digital Hard disk drive not CD/DVD drive.
That coin has been inside my computer case 10cm above the HDD. It fell and hit the HDD. Of course there's no any coin inside the HDD itself.

So have you removed the coin from the case?

If not do so as the coin may be causing an electrical short.

If you have removed the coin then go back into the case and inspect all cables and connections. You may have caused some other problem while removing the coin.

Otherwise the "coin drop" may just be coincidental.

Sort of doubt that a coin would have the momentum to damage the HDD via a 10 cm fall.

Look around inside the case. See if there are any other "coins".

There's no any coins inside and no power issues. The problem now is that windows doesn't bootup. It just says "windows is loading files" then redirects me to windows repair center.

And what does the "Windows Repair Center" say?

Is there some error message or error code presented?

Need to pursue this as far as possible.

The objective is to obtain some specific indication as to what the problem may be.

Unfortunately that process may include a lot of dead ends or false trails.

Windows repair center is not going to help you. This seems like an os issue. Either do a repair install or a full reinstall but as last resort, Doesn’t windows say that before the os is installed? I been off windows for to long. If no one took the coin out then it is lodged up in there somewhere. You don't want it floating around in the computer as if you move the computer then you may shift it to somewhere it will cause a short circuit. If you have an error code then it may be possible to fix without a reinstall if we can figure out what is wrong.

I will give some tips. First before you go sticking your hands in the computer make sure it is powered off and unplugged and ground yourself by touching a bare metal part of the case and hold on to that while your messing around on the insides. Static can fry your computer components. It is possible the coin could of caused a short and fried something but i see no indication of that so far.

Sometimes i wonder if these are troll post. The coin falling on it couldn’t of damaged the hard drive. First they are usably mounted in a metal rack the second thing is they can take a small drop so the force wouldn’t of been enough to do anything, Windows is loading files is usually the first thing that windows xp says when you put the installation cd in. Did you check to make sure you are not booting a windows installation cd instead of the hard drive some computers have the bios set to boot from the cdrom first and if the windows install cd is in the cdrom then it will try to boot it every time. Check to make sure a cd is not in the cdrom tray.

Thanks for your time and concern.. Both of you has provided well-appreciated information. Now I believe that the coin gone underneath the HDD and touched its board causing an electrical short. So when I have forced computer to shutdown, some essential data has been corrupted!
