Question my hdmi to display port adapter isnt working

i just bought it, https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Adapter-Converter-Gold-Plated-Compatible/dp/B017Q8ZVWK/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3OCERGOL2VXEZ&keywords=hdmi+to+displayport+adapter&qid=1550267431&s=gateway&sprefix=hdmi+to+,aps,204&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1 theres the link to it, im using a 1080ti which has 3 display ports and 1 hdmi, i need the hdmi port for something else but the adapter isnt working, do i need to get a new adapter or is there a setting that i need to change?

Try looking for an active one.

Try looking for an active one.

Virtually all GPUs support DP++, it is an extremely standard feature, so this is not a concern with any remotely modern equipment.

how do i know what kind of display port i have? i have only been able to find stuff about port priorities
