Is this functionality that worked prior, or is it just now you're finding out you're having troubles?

As a preliminary, if the hardware still shows, it might be that you are lacking software to play the movie disc. In this event, try installing VideoLan's excellent gem of a media player VLC Media Player from their official site. It is free, open source, and can play virtually any format - including playing from a DVD disc.

Windows 8 (without the media upgrade) through 10 does not support DVD playback natively. You must install additional software to do this, such as the free offering listed above.

Windows 10 does not have DVD player program.

If your computer has Windows 10 installed, then you need to install a DVD player yourself. VLC Player is a pretty popular and free video player.
