My HP Pavilion is reading my headphones as speakers

At first it wasn't a huge problem, but now I bought some higher end headphones and I can't tweak them to the best of their capabilty for some odd reason because they are reading as speakers. Any help would be great. Also my warranty just ended about a month ago, so no help from HP.

Which OS do you have? Usually the front port is the headphone jack and the rear one (on the motherboard) is the speaker jack. Verify that your headphones are connected to the headphone port.

Check to ensure the headphone jack is plugged into the green port. If it is, and is all the way in, I would look to update (or reinstall) your speaker drivers - they may have become corrupted.
