I have suddenly lost all my placed icons on the task bar ,which has been taken over by elongated :thispc, libaries,network and a couple more .I can see about 3 of my icons at the right . Can someone tell me how to get rid of these so I get to see all my icons again please

You might want to pass on a screenshot of what you're seeing. Did this happen after an update? If so, try and perform a system restore prior to the update.

Take a look via "WIN" + "I" > Personalization > Taskbar
Many configuration options are found via Personalization.
Be careful what you change. Keep track of the original setting/value and your new setting/value along with where the change was made.
Change only one thing at a time.

Hi I tried using the settings off my laptop. I had to change a couple of settings but it made no difference. If I close the icon it goes back to it's right size, but if I click on another Icon without closing the previous one it is also elongated ?
Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been in hospital.
There are no little arrows on the right side of the taskbar.
When I click on a task bar item (one I have put there) it elonggates and if I open another t/b item it does the same thing. They will only go back to an icon if I close it from the t/b

Are you able to take some additional screenshots (before, after, etc._) that show what is happening?
If so, do so, and post the screenshots here via imgur (www.imgur.com > green "New post" icon).
The little arrows may only appear if and when there are more icons to show that can shown based on the size of the task bar.

as you can see every icon I have open is elongated and does not close till I close the app ?
