My laptop is performing worse than it should be...

Hey guys, I'm having a very... Disappointing issue with my laptop. It is a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with AMD Crossfire (apparently that's rare in a laptop) and a Quad Core processor that I haven't discovered the name/manufacturer of yet. Most games, it runs quite well but could still do better. Basically, my main issue with this is Battlefield 3. I get a maximum video setting of "Custom > Lower than the Low preset". Maybe I'm not using Crossfire correctly? Whatever it is, I need to know so I can fix it! Any help is much appreciated.

what resolution are you trying to play at, set it to 1280x720. should help a bit.

I'm not sure what specs you got, seems to be an llano or trinity with dedicated radeon on the side and all that in crossfire as you say. Still, that's not the best combination for gaming but it should run the game at lowest settings.

Go to control panel, hit system, look at what CPU it says you have

One thing that seems to be the obvious problem is that it says Crossfire Disabled, when I have it enabled in Catalyst Control Centre. Maybe it's just the specification-finding program I used...

Your laptop is not a gaming laptop, so its quite normal that high demend games like Battlefield 3 wont run well.

The crossfire you have is 1 gpu in the CPU and one dedicated GPU, so they wont run as good as a desktop crossfire configuration, or as good as a gaming laptop crossfire.

Those GPUs are not gaming level at all. See the chart here:

If your results are lower than the ones there, it could be overheating issues.

Ok, thanks. I was convinced that it was a gaming laptop when I heard "Dual Graphics Cards" and "Quad Core" so I understand why I overlooked it. Is there any way I can upgrade my laptop? I know that it's hard, and that it voids the warranty, but I would like to know if there is a way to upgrade that comes out cheaper than getting a new PC.

P.S. If you guys find out about any good deals on a good gaming PC (preferably laptop) please tell me!

well, firstly, even if it's not a gaming laptop, it should still run BF3 on low settings at around 30 fps. There's no reason why it cannot do it.

Secondly, there's a hybrid crossfire mode that should be applicable in your situation, which will allow the integrated GPu to render 1 frame for every 3 the dedicated one renders.

(coincidentally the same model as yours)

It might give you a little bit better performance to make the game bearable. But first and foremost, make sure you are not trying to run it at resolution higher than 1280x720
