Hey guys this has been going on for a while. My dell inspiron 1545 will not start up correctly. When I start it up it won't go to the logon screen it just goes to a screen that says windows is configuring updates then it goes to 33% and blue screens then loops. The only way I can get it to start and get me to log on is to do the start up repair and it restores to a previous date and I lose all my recent files and downloads. It's really starting to get on my neerves so if anyone has a solution I'd be very grateful. My OS is windows 7 if you need more information please ask away.

Solution
nope, you need deeper my friend:

Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

Or you could just type services.msc into the search box and press enter.

then find wuaueng, or something similar (abbreviation for windows update english).

Turn that off, and log in.
can you log on to safemode? If so, do that, and turn off windows update service in the computer services menu (can help with that if needed), then, when you get into windows (no more eternal updating, yay), restart the service.

happened to me before

Ok I found it but what option should I choose? It's on auto update right now. The options are, Download updates but let me choose whether to install them, Check for updates and let me choose to download and install, or never check for updates. And should I check give me recommended updates the same way I get important updates?

Do I just turn it off before I log off then turn it on when I log on and repeat?

apologies for the delay, I am at work (allowed to do this) and on call, so it can get hectic. yes, turn it off before you restart your system in normal mode, then turn it back on. From there, see if it works, if not, you need to refresh the application and it may take a min for me to get that to you.

tripleposting again, but here's what you want from that link (dont kill me mod's plzx)

Now that the Windows Update service has been disabled, you need to go to the following folder and delete all the files and folders inside of it:

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\

then restart the service.
