Hi. I'm using a HP Pavilion G6 laptop and I upgraded to Windows 8.1 last week.

My problem is that my laptop says it is connected to the home Wi-Fi network, but I'm not able to access the internet through any applications, be it chrome, utorrent, or any games. Every other device in my home is able to connect and I can properly use the internet without issue.

This happened last week and I found out that a McAfee update was to blame. Unfortunately the same solution did not work work. I'm now out of options.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

There is a simple solution for this issue of not able to get connected inspite of having connection: Goto Run:c:\temp . Here you have to delete all the files/folders that present in this temp folder.(don't leave any single file/folder) in this directory. Now, disconnect that internet connection which is annoying you.. press refresh of F5 on the desktop screen and then try to connect to that internet connection back, for your surprise you will find the internet connection on with its full speed.

If you resolve the issue with this resolution, pls leave a thanks giving feedback on board:bounce:

I will be glad to know if my resolution is useful for others.. Thank you...

Thank you for your response, bro! I was able to get it to work. Though, what I did seems to only be a temporary solution. Here's what I did. I had a suspicion McAfee was to blame again, and tried to open the application and check out all the settings. But, the application would not open up, and the process was down as 'not responding' in the task manager. I did not know what to do, and just restarted the laptop. This time, the intender was working. Also, McAfee was responding properly. I used the internet just fine, until, after about a couple of hours, the internet would not work again. Same add before, it showed 'connected', but the internet was not working. Again, McAfee became unresponsive. Ii restarted again, and this time, it seemed to hold up. It seems to be holding up just fine for now..... I'll try our your solution first thing, the next time the connection goes out. Thank you!

even i was having the same problem, i dont know the exact reason...but what i do is..
1)go to cmd prompt type
"ipconfig/release" enter
"ipconfig/renew""enter
orelse
2)go to network & sharing center
adaptor setting
disable the connection n again enable it...

I tried them both, bro. Did not work.

I am having the same problem. But when I go to view my networks, I see a mobile phone there, as soon as it disappears, my internet is back up again. Is this an intruder? I am a bit concerned about this. I do not have a mobile phone connected as a network.

Update: The mobile phone changes each time. At the moment the properties say:

C1905_1274-5523
Manufacturer: Sony
Model: C1905
Model number: C1905
Mac address: 1c:7b:21:e2:f3:26

There are other subjects but they all say unavailable next to them.

1. Start ------ msconfig.exe
2. Select “General” ------------- “Selective Startup” ----------- No Tick “Load Startup Item” --- “Apply”
3. Select “Services” ------------- “Hide all Microsoft Services” ----------- “Disable all” ------ “OK”
4. Restart .

I attempted this and it would not work. I am on a HP running windows 8.1. When I found the folder using the search function and attempted to remove them it said told that I didn't have the authorization to delete them and that I would need to get permission from windows trusted installer. Can you shed some light into this issue? I was able to access the internet 2 days ago via wifi and now I am not thru any sort of wifi although it shows I am connected.

Thanks in advance

Basically all the services of any non Microsoft related applications will no longer startup with the computer. This includes your anti virus. If I were you I would go through and check different startup services to see which ones are affecting you. Another option would be to check your event viewer for errors around the time your internet stops workings. It definitely sounds like its McAfee throwing a fit and blocking all traffic, you could try re installing it or switching AV products.

You could also try leaving all the services unchecked except the Mcafee ones and see if the issue pops up, I would put money on it being Mcafee.

I do this process regularly (As of reading yours' and OP's (Original Poster's) Message. I still get kicked of the internet, but mainly whenever someone else connects to the internet. This problem also happens regularly. I posted something on the forums about this.

Thanks!
I did the ipconfig commands and instantly had internet access.
I didn't even have to disable and enable the network .
Thanks again!
