I have the Asus ze70-e motherboard.
I'm trying to install the sata WD blue m.2 500 gb
I have windows 10 and its up to date

it sounds like you have to do something in your BIOS (possibly enable it) for it to show up in windows. do you have any other storage devices installed in your computer? if you have a SATA drive connected to the first SATA port on your motherboard then this may be why its not showing up

I know this board very well: I own one !
Bios settings
- Advanced > PCH Storage configuration: SATA MODE = AHCI (Not intel optane)
-Advanced > Onboard Devices Configuration: M2_1 AUTO or PCIe mode X2 or X4 (not Sata)
M.2_2 X2 or X4
- Disk management :
- if newly NVMe M.2 bare SSD with no OS on it: you might need to initialize/format it in disk management or to download-update your windows10 NVMe drivers, before that go to device manager and look at bottom entries NVMe driver version if installed.
Latest intel NVMe drivers : Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) for windows 10 >> https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27681/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-User-Interface-and-Driver
- and or WD dashboard software >> https://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=1800&lang=en

If this doesn't work there are couple more options in the Bios pertaining to UEFI that we could adjust if needed.

I did everything that you said and the m.2 is still no being detected, but is being shown i WD digital data lifeguard diagnostics as "unsupported"

did you check your device manager for NVMe drivers ? are they listed there ?
Is your SSD M.2 SATA or PCIe ? if it's SATA you need to attach it to NVMe M2_1 located at the bottom of the board furthest from CPU closest to front panel connector Red color on the picture = Port number one of your motherboard and

BIOS> Advanced > Onboard Devices Configuration: M2_1 SATA (best) or AUTO (not PCIe)
M2_2 port does not support SATA mode.

here is the link

I have the m.2 in the bottom slot and have it set on sata x4 and ive x2 and it still does not work

do you have discord or another source i can speak to you?

It was on auto and it does not pull up as a drive in disk manager.
It comes up as a bootable drive in bios though

ok, now it's a windows problem.
1. go to computer management> Storage> disk management: does your new SSD appear there? (screen capture if possible of all the drives and drives list up top)
2. go to device managers: does your new SSD show in the drive list with the hard drives ? does NVMe driver shows at the bottom of the list? ( screen capture if possible)
3. Download/install crystaldiskinfo >> https://crystalmark.info/redirect.php?product=CrystalDiskInfoInstaller
check if your drive info appears on it.
