Ok this is weird, my mic is plugged, I can see it in the panel however it doesn't pick up my voice. However, when i speak in the headphone, the volume on the panel goes up. and people on skype can hear me when i speak in my headphones. not the mic the part that goes on the ear. I also hear sound from my headphones.

I plugged the pink in the pink green in green (even tried inverting just to see) downloaded new realtek drivers and tried with another headset. same problem.

Any help would be appreciated. I've seen alot of good people and solutions on here

Windows 10 ? Right click on the speaker icon on the lower right, check "playback device" and "recording device" then check the levels in the mixer.

Is your headset USB? If so the "recording device" section will show you if it has a microphone built in and give you the option using the microphone you plugged in or the USB mic in your headset. Just highlight one and hit "set default"

I have windows 7, I checked and as I mentioned in "Playback device" the green bars moves when I speak in the headphone instead of when I speak in the mic. and people can hear me when I speak directly in the headphones. the micg green sound bars also move when I play music.

It is not a USB set. they have the seperate pink and green jacks.

I dont know if this helps but the other options i have in "playback device" are:

-Microphone (Default Device)
-Line in (Not plugged in)
-Stereo Mix (Disabled)

Thanks for your help

Think you meant the Microphone was default in "recording devices"

Neat problem. Speakers can act as microphone, but this is certainly unexpected.

Is this a desktop? If so do you also have speaker and microphone inputs on the rear panel? If so try them.

Can you look at the pin on the plug on your headset. They make 3 ring and 4 ring plugs. The one with the extra ring is a combo microphone and headset. Maybe the socket that receives the headset pin is misreading the pins and thinking you are using a combo pin. This is an example of an adapter that brings both headset and micrphone onto the same plug: 3.5mm Male 4 Pole to Dual 3.5mm Female Mic/Headphone Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/ienza-3-5mm-Female-Headphone-Adapter/dp/B01ENX2NLI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1481947040&sr=8-4&keywords=gaming+headset+connector

Does you motherboard say anything about the plugs it accepts into the headphone socket ?

Yeah sorry I meant "Recording Device"

Yes I have a Desktop My headset is already plugged in the back pannel I wanted to eliminate any possibilites of the front ports being the problem. I have the standard 6 ports (mic, L-out L-in, SS-out , CS-out, Rs-out) I am plugged in the Mic and L-out.

Also Both headsets I used have 2 rings. and one of the heads sets used to work so I know its not the motherboard.
