Question My monitor is 100hz WQHD 4k, but my laptop shows only 60hz ?

I've bought 100hz WQHD 4k curved monitor, but my laptop shows only 60hz when connected with an HDMI cable which I got in the box.

1) Is it that HDMI cable doesn't support WQHD 4k?

2) If the Question 1 is true and also my laptop doesn't have DP cable, then can I use a converter for DP cable for my laptop?

3) What is the problem here?

4K above 60Hz requires HDMI 2.1. Check the cable spec; then check your laptop’s HDMI port spec.

Did you go into Display advanced settings in Windows to adjust the refresh rate? (I’m presuming Windows as you haven’t said anything about your laptop)

What version is the HDMI output port on your laptop?

If it is 1.4 then the best that HDMI can do is 4K 60Hz.
For 4K 100+Hz, HDMI port version must be 2.1.
HDM 2.0 can do it as well, when using Y′CbCr with 4:2:0 subsampling.

From my hp manufacturer's website I saw that the HDMI version is 2.1, and also checked in the advanced display settings too, in the drop-down menu, it is showing only 60hz.

This is the laptop series from HP website (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_6302265-6302374-16)

In the above, mine is .......Intel® Core™ i5-1240P processor. (It is performance laptop with less GPU and intel iris xe graphics)

But, when I connected my friend's laptop (a Dell Laptop with 3050 RTX processor I guess) to my monitor, It showed 100hz.

Yes, mine is Windows 11.

Did you use your own HDMI cable, or did friend use theirs?

Yes, mine is Windows 11.
Another option to try, namely putting from Win (Nvidia) settings the refresh rate higher.
Note: guide is written for Win10, since this is what i have, but it should be similar/same for your Win11 as well.

1. Right-click on desktop, choose Nvidia Control Panel.
2. Navigate under Display - Change Resolution.
3. Look for #2 Choose Resolution. From under there, do not pick the resolution listed under Ultra HD, HD, SD. Instead, scroll the list down and you should see another section named PC. Pick the resolution under the PC section.
4. Once you have resolution selected, look if you can change the Refresh Rate to 100 Hz, from the drop-down menu just right from it.

Visual aid:
This is how it looks for me. If i pick any reso under Ultra HD, HD, SD, then Windows will not let me choose greater than 60Hz refresh rate. But if i pick any reso under PC, i can freely pick any refresh rate. 144Hz in this case since my monitor is 144Hz.

My friend used his laptop with my HDMI cable which I got in my monitor package.

My Laptop doesn't have NVIDIA Graphics, it only has Intel® Iris® Xᵉ Graphics. There was no option regarding NVIDIA when I right clicked the desktop. So, I have downloaded the NVIDIA control panel software, and when launching it said " NVIDIA display settings are not available, An NVIDIA graphics card is not detected in your system".

That's not a 4k screen no matter what your Intel Graphics Center says. It's a 3440x1440 screen and your friend's computer likely was running it at that correctly. You should be running 3440x1440 as that's the native resolution to get 100Hz.
My recommended settings in the display area says the same (i.e, 3440×1440 is recommended), but I'm not getting 100hz unlike my friend's.

Found this in on Ubuntu Linux forum. Might be of interest to the OP. Author couldn't get high refresh rate going on their HP laptop's HDMI (despite factory claim of HDMI version), but it worked via Thunderbolt-to-DisplayPort.
I've gone through the article, but my laptop doesn't support Thunberbolt🥹. Ig I need to buy a converter to DP cable if possible.

Might be an obvious question, but have you contacted HP support about this directly? Especially if it’s relatively new and still within their support period.

They probably have a USBC docking station or similar that will do the job.

I bought it in 2022, will check it and talk to them about it.

Thank you for the help until now❤️. Never seen a community this fast helping the fellow users.
